Still sleepless in Liverpool.

Another night, another bout of insomnia. Worst of all, I woke up at 4am today, and guess what? I couldn’t get back to sleep. So I’ve been awake for about 17 hours. It didn’t help that the cat decided to stand on my head, demanding to be fed, while I was lying there this morning, staring at the ceiling.

Anyway, gonna settle down with my kindle and hope for the best. Wish me luck…zzz

My mind feels like a rubbish dump!

rubbish dump

Yesterday I wrote about how chaotic my imagination can be and how difficult it was to retain the good ideas and reject the bad. Well, last night was another, virtually, sleepless night, mainly due to the crap passing through my brain.

I tried everything to get to sleep, even resorting to singing nursery rhymes, as opposed to just counting sheep. Did it work? Did it hell as like! I just found images of Humpty Dumpty, along with Little Bo-Peep passing through my fevered mind.

When I did drop off to sleep (briefly) I had some very strange dreams.

Anyway, I’m either going to go completely insane from insomnia, or I’ll have to dig out the herbal sleeping tablets. Either way, I bet the images that will continue to fill my unconscious, hopefully, self will still be weird, wacky and pure over-the-hill silliness. 😀

Wanted – new brain!

Posted in General with tags , , , , on November 6, 2012 by Kate Jack

Ever feel as if your head is full of cotton wool? That’s my mind state most of the time these days. I’m finding it quite hard to concentrate on anything I do, mostly due to lack of sleep.

For instance I left my mobile phone in work and since I rely on its alarm function to get me out of bed in the morning, I was in a mild state of panic. Even though I have trouble sleeping for most of the night, for some goddamn reason I drift off for a couple of hours, just before it’s time to get up. Left to my own devices, I would snore my way through to midday if it wasn’t for the sickly sweet tone of the alarm on my phone.

I didn’t discover the absence of said phone until I was ready for bed. So, clad in my less than flattering pyjamas and my dad’s old dressing gown, previously mentioned in another post, I stamped round my room in search of the bloody thing. Having failed to locate it, I then exited onto the street, much to the fright of some small children and their parents, to search my car.

I rang the phone, shouted for the phone, even tried some witchcraft, all to no avail. Then I stopped and scraped together the few remaining brain cells I have left and realised I didn’t remember picking the damn thing up when I left work. It was sitting on my desk, ready to let rip with its alarm at 5.15 am.

So how did I resolve getting up on time? I resorted to using an antiquated, battery powered alarm clock, which went off at 4.45 am due to being a useless piece of crap and not very accurate.

Time to sleep…

…and rest my head.

I really must get to bed.

Later and later, I go to sleep.

When it’s time to get up, I want to weep.

Tired all day,

wakeful at night,

I close my eyes and hang on to my pillows,

but sleep wafts and billows,

far out of reach until the dawn,

when the alarm goes off and I yawn and yawn.

Then I could sleep, but it’s still denied,

by the need to get up, the need to rise

and go to work angry, weary and bleary eyed.

The Pen writes on, XVII

How I wish I could creep,

into a sleep soft and deep.

There to dream thousands of words,

to weave into stories clever, yet absurd.

To wake bright eyed and bushy tailed,

instead of weary from sleep curtailed.

By heat so humid it drives me mad,

it stops me writing, which makes me sad.

To rise once more to air cool and clear,

would fill me with heart and fill me with cheer.

To sleep, to sleep, that’s all I need,

for once again I’d write and read.
