Greetings to one and all. It’s my turn to take part in the fabulous My Writing Process Blog Tour. I was nominated by the wonderful Tricia Drammeh. Go visit her blog at:.

What am I currently working on?

I’m working on Dawn Horizon, book III of The Silver Flute Trilogy, a set of YA Urban fantasy novels, set in a dystopian world, very similar to our own. All three novels centre on Jeremiah Tully, a mute musician. The first two novels, Land of Midnight Days and Through the Gloaming, are available on & and

How does my work differ from others of its genre?

Standard fantasy characters, such as elves, have been renamed and updated. The theme of music runs throughout each novel, and the concept of family, friends and relationships are explored, giving an insight into the concepts of loyalty and morality. For example, how difficult is it to make the right choices? How far can a person’s trust and loyalty be stretched?

Why do I write what I do?

I love it – simple as that.

How does my writing process work?

My writing schedule can be a little erratic. I work full time, so that “interrupts” the time I have to actually write. Then there’s lack of inspiration, which thankfully doesn’t happen often. All that said, I try to write a little each day, first thing in the morning and after work, even if it’s only a few lines. I find I can’t settle, otherwise.

Well that’s all for now, guys and gals. If you enjoyed this article, the next two nominees are:

Sophie E Tallis:
And Jane Dougherty:
Both these ladies have fantastic blogs, so why not visit them and give yourselves a treat?

A fast and furious ride!

Posted in General with tags , , , , , , on December 1, 2012 by Kate Jack

YA Urban fantasy with enough of a bite to suit older readers with a penchant for excitement.

Run with Jeremiah Tully, as he tries to escape a life of misery. Weep with him, as he mourns the life that could have been his, if only things had been different.

Marvel at his talent as a musician, a talent so powerful it can rid the city he lives in of its demons and replace the voice he never had.

Visit a world filled with terror, adventure, magic and characters who will capture your hearts.

Lose yourself in a world so complete, you’ll live and breathe it. Take the ride of a lifetime… you won’t regret it!

Miss it, miss out.

Return of the Effra 1-Vortex by Lindsey J Parsons

I’ve not read high fantasy for a number of years, having found little difference in the stories on offer; you know the kind of thing I mean: swords, sorcery, wizards and elves. Well this book has all that and much, much more. Ms Parsons has managed to combine both the contemporary and the mythological in this, her debut published novel, and thus make it different from the majority of high fantasy tales.

All the characters are engaging and the unusual love affair between the main protagonists, Samantha and Damien, gives a unique flavour to the story. The settings are described in a tight and focused way, allowing the reader just enough imagery to step into the world created by the author and make it their own.

All in all this is an engaging read and one I would highly recommend.

Would you have what it takes to survive?

Don’t look back; it’ll slow you down – just run.

The city had become the worst of urban jungles. Hunters ruled unchecked as Jeremiah Tully, running for his life, could testify.

The sound of running feet echoed along the pavement behind Jeremiah. A quick glance round showed a group of youths racing towards him.

Blind panic threatened to overwhelm him until he spotted a fire escape, attached to the side of an abandoned warehouse. He hauled himself up, hand over hand, feet slipping and sliding on the wet steps. At the top he paused, hunched over as he struggled to get his breath. Damp hair hung in rats’ tails over his face and his heart hammered against his ribs.

‘There he is!’

His pursuers were still after him. With a sound of despair he fled.
