What does Christmas mean really?

When Christmas is mentioned, all the old cliches spring to mind: ’tis the season to be jolly, eat, drink and be merry, and so on. But what does it really mean? It is, of course, a time for family and friends. It’s also a time to help others less fortunate. But shouldn’t we celebrate those things all year round, and extend a helping hand at all times? Yes, we should, but life tends to get in the way, diverting us from the path of friendship and preventing us from doing things we should do every day.

I have recently been reminded that I am only human and as the years fly by, my mind turns to memories of Christmases gone by and of those who are no longer present in my life, but I also appreciate those who still are.

All in all, the best gift for me this year, and all the Christmases to come, will be friends, family, and all those I have yet to meet.
