I congratulate the author on her wonderful world-building skills and the sophistication of her prose. In The Dark Citadel the battle between good and evil is enacted against a deliciously dystopian backdrop where history, mythology and modern-day references are competently combined to produce a unique and satisfying work. Underneath all that is some tongue-in-cheek humour older readers will appreciate. Her feisty heroine, Deborah, has a monumental task to accomplish and the reader will be rooting for her all the way. I know I was. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series and while this trilogy is categorised as YA, I think it has universal appeal.
