Happy birthday to…

Fifty six years ago, on the 20th of October, I entered the world at Sefton General Hospital,  Liverpool, kicking, bawling and apparently unable to sleep – some things never change.

My poor parents put up with my insomnia for several weeks, before the hospital agreed to take me back (fortunately not forever) and try and get me into a sleeping routine.

Further down the line, my proud parents brought me home and set about taking the obligatory photographs of their 2nd offspring. I still have some of these, taken when I was at the sitting up stage and resembled an Easter egg with pockets: round, bald and with jowls like a bulldog. I think Mum must’ve fed me on mashed up steak and kidney pie!

In almost every one of these snapshots I’m scowling, or staring at my feet. Why? I don’t know, I was a strange baby and an even stranger child, which led to mild eccentricity in later life.

So, how does it feel to be fifty six? Fine, except when I look in the mirror and see the sagging mess my face has become. High ho, that’s life and I can always not look in the mirror. I’ll concentrate instead on the shopping spree I’ve got planned with my birthday money. I might be a plain Jane, but when it comes to clothes, I’m a glorious peacock 😀

Happy birthday to everyone who shares the same date with me – have a good ‘un.

  3. Happy Birthday Kate, and keep the cat away from the cake. They’re divils for the cream on the top. I know from bitter experience.
