Chasing your dreams.

Chasing after the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow can be exhausting, yet still we try. The thought of not achieving our goal, of being unable to scale the mountain of ambition is unbearable.

I sometimes think that scrambling along in the wake of my heart’s desire is all that keeps me going. Like most people, my life is filled with the mundane: getting up, going to work, coming home again and going to bed. In between are all the boring practices that keep things ticking over, such as shopping, housework, etc, etc.

Of course there are people around the world who would love the dullness of my existence, people who live in war zones, who suffer deprivation on a scale I couldn’t even begin to imagine. Does that make me insular – unaware of how lucky I am? No, it doesn’t. I do know I’m fortunate in relation to a lot of the world’s population, but that doesn’t stop me from dreaming about achieving something better for myself, nor should it.

Perhaps by achieving my dreams, I can offer hope to others who may feel sunk in despair. So I will continue to run after that elusive prize until one day, finally, I can grab it in both hands and hold it up to the light for all to see.
